it's your basic space action flick that happens to be Star Trek flavored

But I think you could describe a majority of Star Trek movies like that.

Nope. All 6 TOS movies - even the ridiculous ones - still had that heart and humanity of the series, as did First Contact. That's 7 movies at least that weren't just any generic space action flick.
