there is, at least for our cats - they get to a point where not only are they bored with one toy, they're bored with all of them, and buying a new one just puts a new item on the clutter pile.

my roommate constantly wants to buy them new things but since I'm around them more and know what they play with vs what sits on the floor gathering cat hair, I lobby for only getting them new things when they actually break or lose their old favorite. case in point, when they broke the stick with the dangly thing on the end, we got them a new one. the Destroyer of Toys immediately ripped the dangly thing off the end and deliberately lost it because she wanted to play with the string instead. the plain ass fucking string on the end of a stick is their new favorite thing and they fight over who gets it. the expensive dangly plush thing? waste of money.
