Right, because the love between Penny and her stalker, who has only had a handful of conversations with her - that's so fucking pure and true, right?

I didn't even read that secret until I saw the comment.

Actually, I really don't think he was a stalker. He didn't follow her around or anything. He just had a crush, and was really shy.
I'm not saying it was pure and true, but I thought Billy's absolute shyness meant it was sort of a...chaste thing, in a way. He was so childish about it. Granted, his crush was primarily based on her looks and nothing else (he had no idea who she really was), but it's certainly more "pure" than the guy who was only dating her so he could bang her and make someone else feel sad.

Just saying.

Hammer only thought of himself. Billy...Billy only thinks in terms of himself. He wanted to make Penny happy, but he couldn't think outside of his own views enough to know what would do that for her.

Um, he did follow her around. First song of act II, he is hiding in the bushes watching her, and he's in the background at the soup kitchen. End of act II he looks at a picture of her that was taken from within bushes.

Lots of stalkers are shy and childish. It's why they stalk people instead of having a conversation.

That's true--but he only started following her when he knew Capt. Hammer was taking her out.

Idk. I just don't feel right about calling him a stalker considering I've had at least one in my life. X___x

You gotta admit, from her point of view, it's pretty creepy. I mean, she never says she's interested in Billy in anything like a romantic way, she's told him she's dating another guy, and he's watching her every move. Admittedly Hammer is heel, but shouldn't it be her decision who she goes out with? She didn't sign on for someone invading her privacy. And the only reason she has Billy as a friend is because she doesn't know anything about his ambitions or activities.

Oh absolutely, it is creepy from her perspective. Which goes to show that had Billy just found the testicular fortitude to talk to Penny beforehand and develop a relationship with the girl, she wouldn't have had to be put in the middle of all that bullshit.

I suppose Billy felt responsible for introducing Hammer to Penny, but again--her call, notsomuch his.

It seems to me that both relationships Penny and Hammer, Penny and Billy are really not good ones from Penny's pov. The only reason she spends time with either of them is because they put up a palatable facade, but both do nothing but lie to her. Billy's "accidental" extra yogurt (which he knows is her favorite because he's been spying on her, a detail he never reveals.) Hammers interest in her (to bug Billy). The truth is, neither of them are fit to date her. She's positive, idealistic, choosing to see the better side of the people she's around and they both utterly and without remorse take advantage of that. If she truly knew what they were up to, she wouldn't date either of them -- and she'd probably be quite a bit more bitter.

But then she wouldn't be Penny. Ahh, so this is what it is to be Jossed. Heh. But yes, I'm in total agreement with you. Granted, as the viewer, we are made to feel more sympathetic to Billy's character, but the truth is that neither man was fit for Penny, and she ended up screwed over due to the both of them. While we can see how Billy/Penny could have worked, it can't because then there is no Dr. Horrible.

Well. Unless Penny's serious about putting the power into new hands and will go the super villain eco-terrorist route...but that's an avenue we won't get to explore outside of fic, I'm sure. ;3

Penny as supervillainess would be hilarious fun -- and would probably skeeve the hell out of the Secret!Maker.

I know I've read fic where she's actually best friends with other ELOL member, Tie-Die...freakin' loved it. XD

What is it with people trying to turn completely fucked up, problematic, doomed from the start relationships into hallmark card romances? It boggles.
