IA with the other anon: this is so common in fandom this should count as a fandom secret.

Also, recently, a former fandom friend of mine started begging for money. She made a long post about how bad her situation has been for months and how she and her family ran out of options.

Just before making that post she deleted all the posts about the merch she owns (she genuinely spends thousands of dollar in anime merch all damn months, she has been doing this for years. There's this new clearfile of her favorite character sold exclusively in one shop? She pays a proxy to get it for her so she can have it NOW. There's this old poster in auction? Be sure she'll bid for it), and despite her supposed "desperate" situation she hasn't tried to sell some of said merch before begging.

It's so, so obvious she's trying to scam her followers, probably to buy more merch, yet people are rebloging her post and telling others to help her, so I'm sure she'll get the pity bucks she wants.
