I found their suckiness...almost caricaturist, though. Also I sort of dislike this trope of the "evil spoiled kid"

So it's better that the kid they were abusing caused all of it? Because that's what you're saying.

Harry did not know he was a horcux, so really saying "the kid caused it" is your interpretation there - no one's saying he deserved it.

Magic caused it. And in extension, Voldemort, as he made Harry a Horcux. Which ties the abuse to the main antagonist in the story.

Thematically, I really like that.

I also like that Petunia, who was really always jealous of Lily, ends up being corrupted by the magic she craved.

I don't personally like my stories to be simplistic - but hey, as JKR never said anything about it, it IS just a headcanon, and you can safely ignore it if you dislike it.

Harry didn't have to know. It's still laying the blame on Harry for existing, because he wouldn't have been abused if he didn't exist. Because the whole Horcrux thing is integral to him as a person in this series.

So honestly? Fuck you for trying to pretty up abuse to make your story more ~complicated~.

Wanna know what a good, complex story is? "Vernon and James Potter met, Vernon tried to be snide because he thought wizards all lived off unemployment and so snidely asked about a car, James fired back about his sleek racing broom and inheritance revealing that Lily was gonna marry fucking rich, further making them both envious of the wizarding couple."

Ah, Fandom Secrets. Never changed. Have fun being offended at a headcanon.
