Re: What have you taught yourself to do that greatly improved you life?

Say "No" to doing favours for people.
Because I have this instinct to say yes to everyone and be helpful all the time, but at some point I realized, yeah, I'm neglecting my OWN work to do everyone else's, and most of these people just aren't around if they DON'T need something. So I developed the following quick no-guilt favour filtration system, which works based on how the question was asked:

Do you have time to ... ?
No.

Want to quickly...?
No.

Hey, I need ...
No.

Could you..?
No.

I have [problem] with [task you're good at]. [these people expect you to volunteer. They then also think because you volunteered and they didn't technically ASK for help, that they don't need to thank you.]
Oh, that's tough. Try [possible solution]. Or get someone from [professional organization that does task] if you're not really into DIY.

[any request that's doable], please?
Yes, let me check my calendar.

YES. You are so right about all of this, and honestly, learning how to say "No" in general is a skill a lot more people could use.

Yeah, that's something I need to learn as well. Sometimes I feel like the player character in the beginning of an RPG, accepting too many quests for far too little payoff and getting overwhelmed. Unlike in an RPG, people tend to get entitled and pushy IRL though...
