143. Wait wait wait how can a show with canon gay be homophobic? (Unless you're talking about them killing off Tony, but still... the show's writers were praised for Steve and Tony's relationship.). Sexist I'll give you. Racist? I can't even... maybeeeeee the whole "Ben gets the short end of the stick, always" thing. Maybe.

I'm really confused about this too. I actually think the show does a great job with the female characters but would be interested in hearing what others have to say. It was annoying, to say the least, that Tony was killed off but at least it wasn't gratuitous and his story was resolved (I won't say how in case you haven't seen the ending). I can't see the racism but again, I'd be curious to see what someone else has to say. Ben does always get the short end of the stick but he also is a fully realised character and not just 2D comic relief.

I've seen the ending, and yes, it was resolved and very tastefully. :)

And I totally agree with you about Ben. I was just trying to get into the secret maker's head. The only other thing that I can think of that could think it was racist is that it's "all white cast... and an Hispanic" but that's not the writer's fault, it's the casting director's.

143: Word. I mean, slightly stereotypical gay men, but the straight men accept them! And learn a lot about their prejudices about demons and queers at the same time! I mean, what are we comparing this show to?

And sure, Ben is sort of short-end guy, but he's also the sane one. IDK, I just...it's lazy sexism at best (and better than SPN), it's...a stretch on the racism, and I just can't buy homophobic.
