1O1. Dear OP,
Weep for that which inevitably will be lost. While I won't deny that the very fact that it took that webcomic series to invoke feelings about the terms of universal harmony and other shit, I will say that
personally? no, I don't agree.

It goes to say that in achieving what you want, you miss most what was left behind. Fuck no, I don't think we can handle world peace. It's the fucking Olympics, and what the crap is going on in the rest of the globe? Russia, Georgia, South Ossetia, and Abkhazia.

War, disputes, conquest? It's embedded in our dna. These very tools of destruction set in the human mind came arise with solutions; these moments of chaos bring us the moments of peace. From Greece to the Revolution of every country. Rare is it that social studies does not derive from these events.

Peace is a beautiful thing. The Olympics are a true testament to that. But how selfish to think world peace not built on the terms is the justified, irreproachable is what the nations, as a whole need. As long as humanity, society, and civilization exists, hell on earth will. Mercy only falls from above as a quality unstrained. As with men, there are exceptional events in history that need us to progress. Revolutions, disagreements, provoke this act of striving for more.

Our circumstances can allow for mutualism, but harmony? A rare feat. Acquaintanceship, respect, but peace?

I doubt so. Politics, economics, everything that makes us as we are will not be possible.

Translation: "Hey, if I use a lot of big words and gibberish that bears only a superficial resemblance to English, no one will notice that my argument boils down to 'War is peace!'"

Re: 101

[identity profile] kuromitsu.livejournal.com 2008-08-16 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
I think the secret OP knows what world peace is not possible for various reasons. Everyone who's ever paid attention in History class knows that. Everyone who's ever read 'Brave New World' or any other book that tackles these themes knows what the price of world peace would be. That, however, doesn't make the wish for a peaceful world where everyone is still themselves and whatnot worth any less (unless you're a hardcore cynic).

There was absolutely no need for such a condescending and pretentious lecture.

Re: 101

[identity profile] demikkusuu.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Um, I apologize in advance for wasting your time with my, uh, comment..?

But in my opinion, even a wish based primarily on a webcomic without further instigation cannot justify itself. A wish, I have no problem; and I recognize that the consequences of a misuse of a use are not and will never be a valid argument (after all, rights abused remain rights), but that same fallacy cannot provide an excuse for its execution. :\

I did not agree with the wish or its foundation, and objected to it; the need to question its basis. I did not mean to sound condescending, but just to point out my perception; not to convince or coerce.

If there is no need for such a lecture, I thank you for demonstrating the paradox. :\ I disagree to the first, you disagree with me; I don't think either of our comments can amount to "no need". If something is there to question, then, why, answer it! These things exactly make up philosophy.

(Any intriguing thoughts on yaoi?)

Re: 101

[identity profile] demikkusuu.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with the first half of that statement. 8'D Heck, I spew out thoughts before I can complete sentences. But, I do disagree with the latter. I surely hope my argument didn't amount to that perception, and my thesis into the exact opposite of an axiom. :\ I couldn't disagree more.

Any war can become a civil war; are not they all fought between men, between brothers? The point is that living in peace is not enough; to be assured, harmony will guarantee us more. The failures of man are what cause our progression. Not war, but who does not say that it is a motive in what occurs - after all, history is the reflex of the future on the past. And, the echo of the past in the future. The idea of peace as a stopper, or the mere notion of that intention had me feel the need to remind that peace isn't necessarily something we need as a people. Harmony, sure; balance, peut-etre, but .. peace? Debate, conflicts, disagreements, offense are able to stir a little controversy, a little progression. These things cause our advancements. Things of this nature bring a strive that I believe peace cannot achieve; the benefits from the former are phenomenal, and outweigh the negatives in certain aspects. [forexample: the ability to immortalize shame is spectacular]

The best laid plans of men and mice, and, of course; the mere lack of structure behind peace does not enable too much progress in that of mankind.

uhhhhhh language barriers D|

Peace is a beautiful thing. The Olympics are a true testament to that.

No, the Olympics are a true testament to making money via sport. Unless shipping homeless people out of town and shielding rich people's eyes from the poor are somehow a path to world peace.

When Sparta, Athens, and numerous Greece city-states managed to get together - to compete, yes, but to claim themselves as being of Greece, in a time where these city-states fought each other, how magnificent was it that they still identified themselves, as a whole, as Greece.
I mean, sure, they were puzzled when Athens decided to help defend Sparta [lol 3OO?] at the meaning of what was Greece, but they still did it anyway.

I'm not sure I completely agree with what the Olympics has come to, in this time and age, but with the origins? Ha, sure.
