I’ve heard it argued that shipping Hollywood actors based on how they behave in interviews isn’t RPF, because their interview personas are “characters” separate from what the actors are like when they’re not in front of the media.

I write a little band RPF myself. I do feel in a sense that I'm writing "characters" because I only know so much (if anything) about their real personalities and any relationships are totally made up. But I still call it RPF.
