There was a name that was used for this purpose: Alan Smithee

He's pretty prolific.

With some interesting variety sprinkled in among the action movies and series. And I'm going to guess that his nickname (apparently a family one) just worked well in the music industry where he started.

I was able to figure out from context in fandom discussions that McG was a specific person, but I long assumed it was a nickname fandom used for him and not a name he used.
