ymmv of course, but I never saw it like that? I love seeing people who studied X weighing in on their subjects of expertise because I get to learn something new and have fun while I'm at it.

I do confess I've had to pull the credentials card once in a while to support my point when arguing with people online, but only because some people can get very harsh with their critiques. To the point of implying 'everyone who enjoys X is stupid'.

Pointing inaccuracies out and saying they bothered/annoyed you? Totally fine and hey they help me learn new things. Pointing out inaccuracies and then frothing at the mouth at the production people + the fans who enjoyed X? Eeeh, not that great. Times like that I appreciate the experts coming in and telling people to calm down.
