This makes me wonder about how much different hosts of The Tonight Show have been paid, since they're all men and we could look and see if new hosts tend to get paid less than previous hosts were by the end (all adjusted for inflation). Since they have all been men, that would control for gender pay disparity. I doubt a lot of that information is available and I'm too lazy to check.

Jay Leno reportedly made 25 million a year towards the end of his career. Rumors said Colbert is making 4.6 million. Johnny Carson for 26 million a year but that is 72 million in today's money.

Colbert isn't on the Tonight Show. He's on the Late Show.

Tbf, Carson, Leno and Jimmy Fallon were all working in very different TV landscapes.
