Not anon you're replying to, but I think many people would be okay with people not mentioning the canon love interest in this case, or just stating that it's an AU where the canon pairing isn't a thing. No drama involved with that.

I think it'd leave a much better taste in my mouth rather than having to read through five chapters of the canon pairing having the most bitter, hateful divorce settlements along with hurting each other emotionally and physically just to get to the part where the gratuitous m/m buttfucking begins.
