How many days has it been, OP? It took me 4 days to read a story gifted to me. I thought about leaving a comment saying I saw this and will read as soon as I get a chance, but that seemed weird. I simply didn't have time to read for several days. People have lives. I'd give it a couple weeks before worrying.

I did it with the fic gifted to me. It was almost 20,000 words long, and I didn't have time for it right away. Gave the author a heads up that work was crazy and I was waiting for the weekend and really looking forward to reading it. Got a pm telling me it was fine and I should take my time. After reading I went back and edited my comment to tell them how much I loved it.

It's been several weeks, soo... I wouldn't jump on someone for not noticing immediately, but I did sorta expect *something*.. A kudos or a comment or a quick email? Not just silence. I mean, I know I didn't squick them, because half way through I sent it to them and asked if there were any DNWs that I was missing, and they said there weren't. Then I finally get it all finished and pretty and...nada.

Not everyone has to like everything, I get that, but sheesh, what happened to polite white lies?

I actually did this. Someone wrote a gift fic for me and it was posted at the absolute worst time--I had work commitments and RL commitments and (I think) some work travel. So I commented on the fic thanking the author, and told her I wouldn't be able to read it until the following weekend and would leave a real comment then. Then I left my real comment on the fic after I had time to read it.
