Re: Dream Adaptations

I know I’ve said this before but I’d love a version of The Phantom of the Opera directed by Guillermo del Toro, with either amazing actors who can actually sing as Erik/the Phantom and Christine or just amazing actors who could be dubbed. And ffs make the unmasked Phantom look like a walking corpse.

Colleen Atwood would have to do the costumes and the non-lair/5th cellar scenes would be filmed at the Opera Garnier.

I liked the fleshing out the Persian and Erik’s mother got in the Kay version, but I’d scrap 90% of what happened after Christine and Erik met, most especially Christine being a shrinking violet clone of Erik’s mother. Or just go straight up Leroux for everything. Kay would have to be a miniseries and Leroux is a toss-up between that and a film.
