man. Internet attention economics is so stupid.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-23 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I really don't know a lot about youtube economics, but doesn't their money come from ads being watched+sponsored content? So if I made a video about paint drying, it Benjamin Moore wanted to sponsor me to make it, what's it to you that I'm making money off it?

(Anonymous) 2018-09-23 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I think OP is specifically referring to YTers who do the stuff that they reference in the video and steal content from other creators

Not to YT videos in general

Make everything public domain.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-23 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be a great policy after the revolution

Unfortunately, we still live in a world where people who make things also need to pay for, like, food and places to live

Five years then.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-23 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
After five years then.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-23 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
You think after 5 years, people don't have the right to make money off of their work anymore?

As if being an artist/writer/creator isn't already a nearly penniless job for the vast majority...

(Anonymous) 2018-09-23 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
They can sell merchandise, but the idea is public domain.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-23 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyone else can also sell merch if it's public domain

(Anonymous) 2018-09-23 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Usually people want support the creators, no? They would be the first one to release the it.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-23 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, but it's much worse than it is now, and even right now a lot of creative types are extremely economically marginal

what the fuck lol

lots of novels and such take five years or more before they even gain traction

man you have zero respect for the hard work creators put in to entertaining you

(Anonymous) 2018-09-23 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
You think every author, musician or creator is going to be successful enough that there’s a demand for merchandise? What sort of merchandise does an author sell?

(Anonymous) 2018-09-24 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
The book?

Entitled much?

(Anonymous) 2018-09-23 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Not especially.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-23 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
You sound like the Australian government. Good job.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-24 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Hey now, I haven't outlawed porn of woman who have a B-cup or less just yet.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-24 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Just found the person the brain the size of a pea!

(Anonymous) 2018-09-24 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Rude, it's at least the size of a water flea!

(Anonymous) 2018-09-23 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, because all of that type of content is boring. I can understand paying for fan art or fanfic, because you get to see characters in different situations that you wouldn't from the original source.
Directly stealing other people's content and reposting it as your own is just bad / boring content.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-24 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
If you write fanfic, even though you're using someone else's characters and worlds, at least you wrote the story, right? Same with fanart. You still at least drew it. But if you're just re-posting footage that someone else created, then you're not creating anything. (If you're actually creating the footage yourself but it barely contains anything, well, it's boring but at least you made it so whatever.)

(Anonymous) 2018-09-25 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I agree OP. If they're just ripping off content from other sites, their page should be shut down and they sure as hell shouldn't be making any money.

But then again I don't like the idea of paying YouTubers and streamers in general.
