Generally it’s the idea that some gay women will initially be in relationships with men before coming to terms with their sexuality, not because they are attracted to them, but because society puts so much emphasis on women’s relationships with men, so they have internalized that pressure.

And people generalize it to the way that certain characters are presented in fiction as well, I think.
