Elle was a strange character to me.

She was often openly critical of the other characters and things the liked or did. And sometimes, she was actually hostile. It could be grating. It was such an odd way to write and play the character, especially as someone new brought on to a behavioral unit. I didn't hate her, but I was often left puzzled by her. I mean, Gideon could also be grating (even aggressively so), but he at least seemed to know how his behavior played to other people, even if that didn't check it.

And another difference to me is that Gideon was genuinely oblivious about social clues. Elle knew she was grating and didn't care. That being said, I did liker. Just not as much as others.

I think it was just a veryyyyy different show at that point, that was much more comfortable with its characters being abrasive and ambiguous.
