Ahhhh, thank you for saying this. It makes me a bit of a pariah in the "childhood favorites" arena, but I really loved the directions that this version took. They worked. It was emotionally satisfying for a young me, and I say that as someone that also had loved the book.

Plus, it really helped scrub a lot of the grody feelings that little me had about a man crawling in through a little girl's window and changing things while she slept, insinuating instead that there was some real magic at work.

I love the book. I have to think of them as separate things. But the movie works in its own way. It does its own thing and has a magic all its own.

They're definitely separate things, and I do love them both. If nothing else, I at least get people to agree that the movie is visually stunning! And I do feel like, even if the characters were a lot different than their book counterparts, they were well-cast and well-acted for the characters they were. If that makes sense, hahaha.
