My opinion is that it would be good if everyone could just chill the fuck out

shipping drama makes the world go round

I am so tired of people who complain about RPF and it's not even my thing.

Ship and let ship. Just keep it away from the people it's about.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-29 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I can understand why people react that way, because of the prevalence of people who can't keep it away from people, because they're dumbasses. And it's probably an even more pronounced thing when you're talking about a fandom of something that's an Internet fandom already. It seems a lot closer. I'm not saying that they're correct to react that way, but I see where they're coming from.

It just feels like it's just a very stupid situation on all sides. It feels like it's the kind of thing where social media + fandom is just calculated to make everything bad and dumb.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-29 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, the issue in this fandom is definitely some shippers... not keeping it away from people, to the point where it's quite rude? there's ao3 and tumblr, why ask invasive questions on twitter/instagram/during livestreams.

that being said, it's less an rpf-only problem, and more an issue with fandom as a whole. every single fandom has chill people who just wanna read/write fic, create art, and chat about the thing they like, and every fandom also has a sub-group of "fans" who get creepily overinvested, harass other fans/content creators/the cast/crew, suffer from serious boundary/entitlement issues, and can't tell ic from ooc.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-29 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
well, i really don't care either way, but that particular "ship" has explicitly expressed they are uncomfortable with it so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i'd think it'd be basic human decency to respect that

(Anonymous) 2018-09-30 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Okay

I ship u and a person I saw on the street, u'd look cute together

honestly i agree for the most part except it's impossible to keep it away from the subjects, at least nowadays. people just can't keep their shit under wraps and it just makes it gross.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-29 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
i like how you used a screenshot of microsoft word to make a secret

(Anonymous) 2018-09-29 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
TBH Anytime I see posts like that about a ship it makes me consider shipping it out spite.

Also calling people demons is on my personal list of "signs a blogger is an insufferable asshat".

(Anonymous) 2018-09-29 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
What if they mean it as a compliment

AYRT

(Anonymous) 2018-09-29 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Well they're the exception.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-29 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
i kinda read it more as a joke, seeing how half the unsolved seasons are about chasing ghosts and/or demons

(Anonymous) 2018-09-29 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean maybe??? but calling people "demons" is part of the common vernacular of tumblr antishippers- aka the most annoying self righteous fuckers on the planet. I've seen them use that word whenever it comes to anything involving "people who have the nerve to ship what I don't approve of".

(Anonymous) 2018-09-29 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Reminds me of the "feminists are witches" movement.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-29 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
i just cannot fathom making myself display an interest in something just on the off chance that it might annoy some people

like what kind of sad existence is that? "ah, i see you're a fan!" "no, no, i just like making strangers i have never spoken to mad, i don't actually care :)"

alternatively it's all teenagers feeling spiteful, but i see the sentiment so often i can't imagine that's it

(Anonymous) 2018-09-29 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I just feel bad that the people of Buzzfeed Unsolved have to worry about things like this in their real life. :(

(Anonymous) 2018-09-29 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah.. real person shipping is one thing I won't do because I've seen how some people treat the subjects of their shipping.

Even though I hate shipping hate with fiction , that's fiction. Real life people shouldn't have to worry about people making their life a game.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-30 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt exactly. "Ship and let ship" is great for works where no real people are actually involved. Real people are not characters you can feel entitled to.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-30 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
RPF has always happened. What is historical fiction if not RPF? They were real people. Or is RPF only 'dodgy' if the person is still alive?
I agree with "ship and let ship" as most RPF is aware that it is fiction. The majority of RPF shippers are aware they don't actually know the people involved and are just using their public persona. The majority of RPF shippers don't feel 'entitled' to the person and can separate the 'true' person from the 'persona' and, indeed, the true person from the fictional construct they have made.

Did you make this screenshot in Open Office on Mac

(Anonymous) 2018-09-30 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly that's how my obsession with shipping an incest pairing started. I saw so many people taking a big dump on it that it inspired me to write several fics for them. Spite is a great motivator. But RPF is still a little ehhh for me.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-01 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I saw the original post on my dash and I'm still curious, when did either of them say they were uncomfortable? I mean, aside from it being a given, I really wanna see an actual source.

That said... whatever. I still ship it.
