I have a fandom acquaintance on twitter who says "there's just no chemistry!!" pretty much every single time there's an interracial pairing (either canon or non-canon but with potential). They've used the "brotherly/sisterly" comment numerous times as well. While there's no requirement to ship any pairing (and chemistry is subjective), when it becomes a trend it does feel like there's some potential discrimination going on so I get where OP is coming from.
