Re: What is your favorite fruit? What is your least favorite?

Yup. And those yellow ones, whatever they're called, also rather gross.

I like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp - tangy, tart, *crisp*.

The Macintosh apples we used to grow (when i was a kid) were like that - sweet-tart, super crisp, lovely. Haven't found any like that in the store in a long time.

yeah most McIntosh are mealy and soft. Really good for certain baked goods and applesauce/ apple butter, I guess, but not for out of hand eating.

How weird. Ours were never like that. DAMN they were good. Made wonderful tart pies, and i could have just sat and ate them off the tree all day.

Sucks the store bought/shipped ones are so gross. Nothing more useless than a mushy, mealy apple.

Fuji is also great- my personal favourite. Pretty sweet but super crisp and stay fresh forever. Weirdly enough, they're apparently a cross between Red Delicious and something else...

I used to love Braeburn but they've been pretty hit and miss for me for a while now.

Huh. Interesting.

I'm always so frustrated with some apples. I used to buy bags of Johnathan apples - they were always crisp and good, but the last couple of times, they were just mushy and tasteless. So disappointing!

That's what happened with Braeburn for me. I always found them pretty tart and crisp but then I got several mealy, bland batches and I lost my trust in them Haha! Sometimes I still get them and some are good while others aren't.

It's disappointing. But I guess since they do so much forced growth crap and shipping from other countries crap with about half the food we eat, it's no wonder some of it tastes horrible.

Yeah, not to mention this whole "let's harvest half of the fruit produce unripe" which ... really doesn't work with some kinds of fruit because they don't continue ripening when already harvested...

Exactly.

I love honeycrisps! If you can find them, I recommend Mutsu. They're a big greenish-yellow apple and they're nice and crisp/juicy. Not as tart as Granny Smith or tangy as Honeycrisps but still delightful.

Now that is a type I've not heard of before. I'll have to look for them!
