It might be an age thing too? We've been told as we get older that celebrating our birthdays is childish and that we shouldn't want that, so sometimes it means our friends just assume they shouldn't make a big deal out of it.

I agree with anon above me. You can reach out to your friends that ARE available and throw your own party for yourself with them involved, or you can just enjoy the day by yourself by spoiling yourself in doing what YOU want.

Unfortunately I doubt I’ll have opportunity to do what I want. I don’t have any spending money because I live paycheck to paycheck, I’m going to be working all day, and I don’t even own a car to drive myself places... maybe the issue is more that I’m depressed with no one to hang out with and I just feel worse about my shitty life around my birthday. But regardless even though I know I could treat myself, the irrational part of my brain just wants other people to care about it too and act like it’s special. It’s no ones fault cause they’re all just busy with their own shit, but... like I said, it’s irrational.
