Fans are hard to come by, for sure. The tags are depressing.

So...before the epilogue?

(Anonymous) 2018-10-02 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
The HBP reaction was pretty nasty.

I like a lot of Harry Potter. I also dislike a lot of Harry Potter. I don't see what's wrong with that.

I think OP is referring to people who tear apart EVERYTHING about the books, and JK Rowling, and... yeah. It's nasty.

There are things I don't like either, including some of the things JK Rowling has said, but I haven't renounced my love for the books and declared JK Rowling Undesirable #1.

I can see that. I do feel like there are still plenty of people there who basically like the books.

Not sure if you mean fandom or character, but I agree either way : /

You and i both, anon. On the bright side, there's plenty of people who like HP, and are excited for FB. I know many of them irl. The assholes and complainers have just driven us off online fandom spaces.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-03 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I find myself unfocusing my eyes and scrolling past most of the Potter mentions on Tumblr and I seldom click on Potter related articles online, or at least I avoid discussion of them. I find a lot of the recreational bitching just tiresome.

Goom

"recreational bitching" OMG that's such a perfect term for it.

I recently visited the Wizarding World at Universal Studios. Sooo much fun. And all these little kids LOVE Harry Potter. It inspired me to start rereading the series and I THINK I want to dive into the fandom waters... there will always be wank, right? It's a big enough fandom to find my way into a cozy little nook somewhere? Or so I hope.

And I hope those kids don't grow up to be haters :/

(Anonymous) 2018-10-03 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Wait a couple of years. Seriously.

The little kids who were super into Harry Potter are all jaded young adults right now who, like many jaded young adults, think all the popular stuff they liked when they were kids was stupid and bad and trying to indoctrinate them into the evils of mainstream society. Give the all about 5 years to start getting nostalgic, and they'll start loving Harry Potter again. Give it about 10 years, and Hollywood will churn out a Harry Potter reboot* and you'll get the pleasure of seeing fandom get super nostalgic for "classic" Harry Potter while hating on the new stuff.

*Assuming JKR has stopped churning out her own reboots by then...

I still love HP books 1-7. But... the endless input from JKR, the parade of cheap tat merchandise everywhere and the cash cow extended universe have kinda killed the magic for me. I try to avoid it all but it's kind of everywhere.

So now I avoid fandom and tbh don't even want to read the books anymore.

Sorry you're satisfied by inferior products.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-03 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Same

mte

like can't we just do what we did with disney and accept that everything is problematic and enjoy our overpriced harry potter merch and our dumb movies. yeah the books fall apart if you prod them too hard and jk rowling is a pr disaster, but she also donated so much that she turned from billionaire to millionaire so really, i'm fine with letting her tweet dumb shit if she keeps on doing that
