I'll agree with this, too. I think the internet and social media have certainly amplified some nasty aspects of fandom culture that might've been easier to avoid back in the day, but yeah. I've no doubt there are horror stories out there from the pre-internet days of fandom that would be just as bad as what you hear about now.
