Uh... people managed to buy things before the internet existed. It wasn't as easy or convenient, of course. But entire country economies have been built upon the ability to purchase stuff with money, somehow. ;)

duh. I'm just saying some clarification was necessary, because cabin in the woods is not exactly synonymous with popping down to the mall five minutes away. phoning a friend means I don't have to leave the cabin, ergo, hell fuckin yeah get me away from people for a year.

A lotta the infrastructure that allowed for that to happen has kind of been replaced by the Internet at this point. I don't think you can still get Sears Roebucks catalogs, exactly.
