Unrelated to any of this argument OP has, I'm just coming in as a fat person to point out that calorie requirements increase as body mass increases. Check out any total daily energy expenditure calculator (TDEE) and factor in sex, weight, age, and lifestyle, and two people the same age and height could need totally different amounts of calories to maintain their weight.

Metabolism is super complicated, not even getting into what you believe about some of the science still being discovered. The Minnesota Starvation Experiment found that a state of semi-starvation was extremely harmful. However there's also been many studies showing that fasting (with no cheats, no scrawny salads or anything besides electrolytes - which the heart needs - to tide you over) activates a process called autophagy where the body recycles cells and HGH is produced to heal damage to the body. This is only one of the benefits of fasting beyond weight loss... and the reason why fat people can go far longer without food in the total absence of such. The flip side of that is that skinny people have no fat stores to live off of, and why it's flat dangerous to do something like extended fasts if you are below a certain percentage of body fat.

t. a keto nerd who's lost 30 lbs dropping carbs and intermittent fasting.

Sorry, didn't mean to get preachy, lol.
