Muscles represent masculinity, and since you're a girl, it's totally normal for you to be attracted to that. As someone who was fast enough to comment on the first page - you saw the light.

Sure. Anime is and has always been about stereotypes, recognisable patterns, clichés, and "strong guy" is the most basic archetype of a *man* that I can think of. Of course, there are plenty of other ways to emphasize manliness, but they are not universal, more complicated... and harder to draw ;) A well-built and buff guy will almost always look more of a man than a wimpy big-eyed shorty.

Eh, I was more concerned with the "since you're a girl it's normal for you to be attracted to that", since I have been a girl since they slapped me on the ass but have never been into beefcake.

Ah, sorry I misunderstood. Well, to each her own, of course. I can only guess that you somehow developed taste for other manifestations of "strength" that you find attractive in a man. Nothing wrong with that either!

PS: And btw, bara =/= beefcake. 95% of all fanart is at least a bit beefcake-ish (with sixpacks and stuff), but bara is really about extremely buff characters. Beefcake art is just something made to please the eye, while some bara fanart is just monstrously creepy.

Well, I wouldn't go into a discussion of how exactly archaic it is, so let's say yes. This isn't about epoch-specific ideals and civilisation advancements, it's about basic instincts. Healthy>>sick, strong>>weak. etc.

It's not very archaic, except at it's most base, I'd say. And yeah, I do understand that there is an instinctual level to attraction. I just had issue with your phrasing - you made it sound like any girls who didn't like their men with biceps as big as their heads are weird.

Don't hit me, I was just comforting the OP ;) I had an issue with her statement that muscular men are only supposed to be attractive to gay men. She did have an almost valid point because that's how bara style was developed in art, but fanart is not everything in this life.
