Re: 153
It's a refusal to accept homosexuality as it is, a stupid need to change it into heterosexuality. There's nothing wrong with liking an adorable uke here and there, but completely emasculating them ALL THE TIME and being squicked by real gay porn is fairly homophobic. If you need to believe that all "bottom" gay men are basically
womenlittle girls with a penis in order to accept it, you're not as open-minded as you think.Re: 153
(Anonymous) 2008-08-19 01:25 am (UTC)(link)it's pretty apparent you have NO FUCKING CLUE about the origins of yaoi.

Re: 153
(Anonymous) 2008-08-19 02:02 am (UTC)(link)But what about gay men who like being feminine and act girly or gay crossdressers? All of a sudden they want to be heterosexuals?
Then can I call you sexist since you seem to have the idea that men should act a certain way? Sound silly doesn't it, imagine how you sound.
And stop acting all BL is the weepy ultra-feminine ukes, it has a lot more than that nowadays. There's plenty of BL that have none of the sort like Tsuta Suzuki, Fumi Yoshinaga, Shushushu Sakurai, Guren Naomi, Yugi Yamada, I can fucking go on really. You are really misinformed about the current market.
Besides, it's one, ONE aspect of the relationship, no one rarely speaks about outside the bedroom. Or how most of the couples try to strive for equality in their relationship. Like it or not, some bara fans are just as obsessed who bottom or top like some rabid seme/uke yaoi fans, just in the extreme opposite direction and ignoring that some gay men like being only bottoms or tops.
And bara is really no different, exchange the metrosexual looking guy with unrealistic beefy men and bam, here you go. Batshit bara fans, especially female ones like to think they're special because it has "for gay men only" label on it and ignoring the similarities.
And what about gay men who don't like like bara men or the few that like BL? Are they suddenly inadequate or something, especially if they're not packing extra 50 pounds of muscule. Bara is an idealization too, just as much as BL.
And guess what, I like bara too. I'm sick of fans who like they're the shit because they like it. I find fans who like it and don't make a big shit out of it and ones who both BL and bara a lot more tolerable.
Re: 153
I think that's probably because most porn isn't sexy, period. It's unattractive, badly-peformed and ridiculous. I only find movie/television sex scenes sexy, myself.
But what about gay men who like being feminine and act girly or gay crossdressers? All of a sudden they want to be heterosexuals?
Then can I call you sexist since you seem to have the idea that men should act a certain way? Sound silly doesn't it, imagine how you sound.
I never said men should act any way, or anything about gay men who like yaoi. I can see why you feel the need to pretend I did, though. I just think fans who are ONLY into abused/girly ukes are backward. Ukes with actual personality are another matter altogether. I'm talking about the characters who are basically lifeless damsels in distress with cocks. It's fine when sometimes one character prefers to be on bottom, but I don't understand why there ALWAYS has to be a "uke" (read: woman) and a "seme" (read: man). Why can't people let go of their gendered ideas of sex? Again, there's nothing wrong with someone who prefers to be a bottom (though I personally find that concept really ridiculous and have never met a gay guy who insisted on never experiencing the pitcher position). It would be different if the uke/seme thing wasn't almost ALWAYS present.
Admittedly, I don't keep up with yaoi anymore because I've realized that 90% of it is shit, but I do see that one manga with the little boy sex slave ALLLL the time, so I have to assume it has a huge following.
If ukes aren't all about being helpless and girly anymore, well yay. That's not what I see from occasionally browsing, though.
Re: 153
(Anonymous) 2008-08-19 07:06 am (UTC)(link)Why some bara fans can't let go their gendered ideas of sex? Because it seems from some of the responses they say bara features "real men" when few men look and/or act that way? Like I said earlier, bara is a form of idealization too, but for some odd reason those fans overlook that. Some bara fans are tied up in gender roles too (macho men is good, men who act slightly feminine bad) but they don't notice it yet. If you truly didn't care about gender roles, it shouldn't bother you and make you shout, "HOMG it's spouting the heteronormative agenda!" when it's only about one issue in the bedroom.
And "uke" and "seme" is just positions. Yes, some manga-ka make a big deal about them but there are BL with a dominant uke, a submissive seme, or reversibles. And it's not like bara never submit to the tachineko rule either.
And Okane ga Nai is somewhat popular. But I think calling Ayase just a weepy uke is a bit harsh. He hates his looks and was never comfortable with them, and he wants to be more masculine and talks in a very masculine manner (which gets lost in translation).
But there's manga that more popular than that like Antique Bakery or anything from Fumi Yoshinaga. Anything by Tsuta Suzuki or Yugi Yamada is good.
Re: 153
"Uke" and "seme" are not just positions, from everything I've seen. I'm not talking about one person physically being on top or bottom (which usually has to happen with gay male sex). I'm talking about ukes who are always waify airheads/damsels in distress, or basically any other negative female character stereotype. Again, the fact that there always has to be a "woman" and a "man" is what bugs me-- not that there SOMEtimes is a character who doesn't obey gender roles, which is awesome, but that almost every time I see a yaoi cover, it's glaringly obviously who's the male and who's the little girl with a penis.
