You're right. And it amuses me to see how many people here CAN'T see that.

Bush was a racist horrible person. McCain was a racist horrible person. Romney was a racist horrible mysigonist. Trump is a racist horrible mysogonist, GUYS WE REALLY MEAN IT THIS TIME. Bill Maher actually went on TV and said this. For real.

If you call half the country racist horrible mysognistic people for wanting things like lower taxes, less government, believing that the best way to help the poor is get to them employed, wanting power to return to states and local government, or believing that rape culture is not a thing (rape is, but our culture celebrating rape is not), eventually people will throw up their hands and say ...

"Fuck you. You've called us monsters for years, and we know we're not. So we won't listen to to a damn thing you say, and electing someone to piss you off is a reasonable strategy."

Liberals and leftists of the US: YOU GOT TRUMP ELECTED.

You didn't want to listen to the concerns of half the country. You wanted to calm them stupid and backward.

It's like the story about the little boy that cried wolf. Except in this instance, there was actually only one wolf all along, and the little boy kept warning people about it as it got closer and closer, and no one listened until it was in the middle of the village killing people, and then they blamed the little boy for pointing out the wolf.

Bush did start the Iraq War, which was an immensely stupid idea and has had myriad awful consequences both in America and abroad, with no consequences whatsoever. McCain did nominate Sarah Palin as his VP. The Tea Party really has consistently bordered on the edges of racist, conspiratorial shit, with no apparent objection from the rest of the Republican Party. And Trump embodies all of those problems, magnified 1000x. (And Bill Maher is a weird idiot comedian; please do not take his words as meaning anything).

I watched the most recent episode of Bill Maher's show. Two things he emphasized toward the end: power begets power, and if you want things to change, you should vote instead of wasting time yelling at people in public (or wherever else).

You can call him an idiot comedian all you like, but this is one time I think a lot of people should, at the very least, be considering his words.

Of course you can voice your concerns to your local reps if you are able to. But wasting your time yelling at people in restaurants or insulting others over the internet is not going to change the current state of things.
