For me, it's usually some combination of both. I can't stand drawn out stories that tease other romances while it's blatantly obvious from the get-go who the "true" love interest is.

I feel like Ouran practically ended with a moresome, given that the others crashed the happy couple as neighbors.

I kind of liked Love Hina but I still haven't finished reading it. But the main couple were definitely not the most interesting characters in the book. (I did ship a couple of the girls with each other, though.)
