I remember finding her promo images (like this one) a little unsettling, but I found it way less so in the actual show where she gets to move around like an actual human being instead of being posed awkwardly. I take bad photos, I look like a wax statue, I feel her pain.

It feels like it changes from day to day - some days it's not so bad and some days it's really unfortunate.

At first I genuinely wasn't sure whether she had some, like, serious physical issue with her face that she was trying to conceal. Feel guilty saying that but it's true

I don't think so... She just seems to love that style of make-up. The 80s frosty blue eyeshadow startled a "holy shit" out of me. Sometimes her blush is even more heavily applied, like literally two circles on her face.

1) Have you seen the show? The make up in that pic is relatively subtle. In one episode, she had on lime green eyeshadow.

2) Bit weird when someone says they're startled by someone's make up and your response is, no, it's the actual face you're startled by...as if you know better what's affecting op than the op does.

Yes, i've seen the show. I don't think lime green eyeshadow is particularly startling or weird, and she doesn't look like an anime character to me at all. I think her features are very, very odd, and when I see her on the show, that's what catches my attention every time, not her rather pedestrian makeup.

This is the place where were *give our opinions*, remember? Where people very often *contradict the secret and/or the Anon who made it*.

So get a grip.

Sure but that's you. OP feels like it's the make up that catches their attention. Having a differing opinion is fine, but telling someone else that they're wrong about how they feel because you feel something different is...yeah. You might not have meant it that way, but it was poorly phrased. No need to get mad because someone called you on it.

'Called' me...on what? Having a different opinion? Several people agreed with me about her features being odd without clarifying that they weren't telling the OP they were 'wrong' - are you nattering at them, too?

I think she's cute, and her makeup is fun, but something about her features just makes me *stop*, every time. Just...slightly off. Not *bad*, not ugly, just...odd.

She seems to be doing pretty well in the competition, and her stuff is cute, if a bit too 'I LOVE JAPAN!!' but, hey - she's having fun and impressing the judges, so that's all that really matters.

I thought so too at fist, and I think she does have a distinctive face, but I really think the makeup is the real issue. I'd be into it otherwise tbh.

I think she's also really gotten a lot more likable over the course of the competition to me - I think a lot of the cutesy preciousness early on was just nerves, and she's really started to show out a lot more recently.

I actually really like this whole crop of bakers at this point tbh

I feel terrible saying this, but she's one of my least favourite contestants this year because I find her very inauthentic. When Paul and Prue were asking her where she got the idea of 'space turtles' from, and she's all "oh I don't know!" so very "Oh yes, what am I like, this is SUCH an original concept".

No. It's a fairly common trope, from The World Turtle (and therefore Pratchett) to Turtles All the Way Down. It's a known thing.

And this lack of authenticity shows in her choice of make-up. She can't possibly think it looks good, but she has to maintain this sense of a manic pixie Japan-obsessed SO DIFFERENT quirky girl persona.

I don't think she's inauthentic, but quite nervous! She seems to act the same way around everyone (including in the friends and family sections) and I think she's dorky and funny. Though I also think she'd be very tiring to be around all the time.
