It's a marketing thing, which is why and Maid Marian, Captain Amelia, Lilo, Sally, and Vanellope are not officially considered "Princesses" either. Alice is currently not on the official list either, maybe because she's goth as fuck and into recreational substances.

Listen, if the Disney corporation isn't going to have a logically coherent definition of "princess", what's the point of anything

I was trying to be funny, obviously it didn't really come off. Since they are movies by Disney with characters with 'Princess' as an actual part of their title, whereas some of the "Disney Princesses" are not actually princesses (and some would be queens by now, right?).
