I only like love triangles when [A] and [C] are mutually in love with each other, but for some reason one of them is with someone else [B], and thus, much pining and repressing and angsting.

Yes, it's completely unfair to [B], who is being lied to by omission and treated like an obstacle by the narrative. But I'm trash and I like it.

A canon example of this would be...I guess Jim/Pam/Roy.

A fandom example would be Sherlock/John/Mary. (As in, I'm not saying that's Mary's role in canon - it's just a lot of people's headcanon interpretations of the story.)
