I don't hate her but I would have preferred her to be a much more minor character. I only really like her in very small doses. Also I wish people didn't ship her with Rosa.

Gina and Eleanor

The funny thing is that she reminds me a bit of Eleanor in The Good Place (well - Eleanor before the show started). Except the show knows Eleanor is horrible, that's the point, whereas B99 doesn't realize how terrible Gina is. Even though it's a lot of the same people. The only real difference is that Eleanor's quite smart, whereas Gina's a bit of a ditz.

Or maybe Eleanor is how someone like Gina would be IRL? And a lot of us don't like Gina because we know people like that IRL, and they aren't endearingly obnoxious, but flat-out unreliable and bad friends?

Yeah, that's a really interesting comparison. I think the difference is that Good Place knows how obnoxious Eleanor can be, both in-universe and externally - that is to say, not only does the whole conceit of the show rely on the fact that Eleanor is kind of terrible, but the way that the show is written, shot, etc is done with the knowledge of that. It takes into account.

Whereas B99 treats Gina being on screen like it's a special treat for the viewer - "Lucky you! You get to see the awesome, badass, likable, good Gina being on screen!" She's almost a bit of a Poochie.

in addition, Eleanor seems much more self-aware then Gina. Eleanor knows she's horrible soe of the time: Gina thinks she's always fabulous.
