This is in my netflix queue, OP! But I wanted to read the book first... or should I just go ahead and watch?

Been meaning to watch that but the visuals put me off, seemed like one of those historical shows where everything is drab and smeared with mud for the sake of realism

It is, but the mud is accurate. Jamaica Inn is a real place and it's on Bodmin Moor. They had horses and no paved roads. Knee deep mud would have been the norm.

Agreed, and I love the lead actress. I think she's on Harlots now?

I had no idea what they did was a thing, but I am unsurprised.

I went to Jamaica Inn twelve years ago. It can creepy as fuck. We were there out of season which probably didn't help. The moors were bleak and the wind howling. The people were hard faced and unwelcoming. All the kind of details I love in books but made me uneasy in real life.

This series looks like it's captured that spirit lol. I'm sure it's awesome.
