If you agree with his philosophy - get help. Seriously. He is a sociopathic madman who wantonly destroys things for no real reason other than that it's fun. If you really, truly look up to a man like that you need serious psychological help. And the nice men in white suits, too.

Although chances are, once the hype about this movie dies down, the OMG LOOK AT HOW EDGY I AM I SYMPATHISE WITH A SOCIOPATH sect of fandom will move on to the next madman. It happened with Kira and Sylar and it will happen to the Joker too. Sorry but it's nothing new, you're going to have to find some other way to stand out.

Seriously everyone, you're not special. Think of it this way 100s of people post secrets with the SAME THING.

Seriously, I dated a sociopath once (I didn't know what he was, he seemed like a really nice guy when we met) and it was a year of constant abuse, rape, beatings and in the end, he tried to kill me. IS THAT WHAT YOU REALLY WANT?
If you can honestly say that you want something like that, you are a broken human being and you are beyond help. If that isn't what you want, congratulations on being psuedo-edgy like the rest of fandom and thinking you're special for it, I guess.

Dating a sociopath isn't the same as having a crush on a fictional sociopath, because most of the people who are OMG IN LOVE with the Joker wouldn't be if he weren't fictional.

I'm sorry you had to live through that, though, and I think your strong feelings about the Joker-love are definitely justified in light of your circumstances.

I can understand a lot of where people are coming from with it, we all have darker sides that we like to indulge in and nobody should have any problem admitting to that. I think the type of character the Joker is has a lot of charisma and his almost playful brand of psychopathy (is that even a word?) is a lot more appealing than a lot of fictional crazy men, he's almost accessible.
I have a problem when it gets to the level of idolisation though. The Joker is not a man to aspire to be. He's deranged in every sense of the word and if any of these people came close to anyone like him in real life with the intention of starting a relationship - or hell, even just having sex - with them, they would find themselves dead, tortured or both very quickly. My mind just boggles at the fact that some people give off the impression of actually wanting something like that, or even worse - to BE something like that. To me, that's an indicator that there's something seriously wrong with how you view the world.

Well, I think you have to look at the reason they want to be the Joker. The Joker is impervious to everything - money doesn't concern him, people don't concern him. He's completely impervious to everything. Police can't stop him, prison can't stop him, even batman can't stop him. He wins all the time. He's untouchable.

I think it's mostly that level of power and control, the ability to do as he pleases, that is really what people find attractive.

Oh, for fuck's sake. Fiction is one of the ways we deal with our shadow sides, the part of ourselves that characters like the Joker represent. At least these people are vaguely more aware of theirs than people who keep them so repressed they then act out by being passive aggressive bitchy assholes IRL.

I don't know. I can understand sympathizing with the Joker's basic point in the movie (i.e., that humans will tolerate horrible things as long as they're predictable, where in reality, all life is equally worthless and all people are equally horrible) and I certainly don't think anyone needs psychiatric help for sympathizing with a villain. There are plenty of things about the Joker in particular that are just plain likeable, and I think most people did came out of the movie thinking that Joker was one likeable sonuvabitch... the fangirls are just taking it a step further, because they're fangirls and that's what fangirls do.

Honestly, it's no different from everyone who's freaked out over Snape and Sephiroth, except so far no one has married Joker on the astral plane.

Communities like this are always going to have a vastly increased ratio of fangirl noise to, uh, non-noise.

And we don't know for sure that no one's married the Joker on the astral plane. Someone might have submitted a secret about it already!

Someone might have. Let's hope if anyone does astral marry him, they go very public with it.

It would be one hell of an interesting occasion though. If I had any kind of talent I'd probably write it as a fic for the lulz.
