I've never really seen a clear reason for why it's supposed to be so bad. I didn't really see it as that much darker and grittier than any Marvel movie? idk.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-18 05:12 am (UTC)(link)Personally, I thought JL did a poor job explaining their McGuffin, and it was silly for the writers to use anything that looked like a cube. Captain America: The First Avenger was released in 2011, and Marvel intro'd the Cosmic Cube/Tesseract there, so for DC to do it in 2017 just made it look like a cheap copy. It's not like DC doesn't have a ton of things it could have used instead (something else tied to the Lantern Corps? More deity-forged weapons from WW's comic vault? Some Kryptonian tech that ended up on Earth when Krypton blew? Literally anything that didn't look like DC's knockoff Tesseract would have been a better decision).
I also don't think they fully utilized their actors. I really like Ben Afleck as Batman, because he comes across more like some of the cartoon versions, and it really does feel like he spends a lot of the movie trying to figure out how to tell Ezra Miller's Barry that he's adopting him. Ezra Miller's Barry Allen, by the way, was delightful. But the script wasn't great for Jason Momoa. Will i still see Aquaman? Of course, but I would have seen Aquaman in theaters even if the movie had just been Jason Momoa coming out of the surf like a rugged, beautiful merman, shaking the sea water from his hair, looking deep into the camera, and explaining the evolution and history of crabs to me for two hours. I feel like the script they gave him especially didn't really.. have him... act? Like, he's not Arthur Curry, he's just Jason Momoa in an Aquaman costume. I thought Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman was under utilized, especially given how much more successful the Wonder Woman movie was compared to Batman vs Superman. Victor Stone deserved more screen time for his character arc, but the movie was already bloated and struggling at 2 hours that DRAGS.
