I can say this for Supernatural - it *literally* takes place in a universe that is separate from "ours". At one point, the Winchesters actually get thrown into "our" world, where they are actors named Jensen and Jared, etc.

SO it's reasonably acceptable that God, Heaven, Hell, etc, are the way they are on the show, ONLY IN THEIR WORLD, not in the real world. That's the logic I've seen used a few times.
