Way to be a boring brainwashed fanbrat, boring brainwashed fanbrat.

Hint: try developing the ability to read critically, the ability to think for yourself, and the ability to tell good writing from crappy, rip-off writing before you make major life decisions.

I'm curious, what is it a rip off from? I just recently finished The Golden Compass (after much prodding from my younger sister) and thought it was a decent book, nothing ground shaking but not 'crappy'.

I should have used different wording. Pullman himself said that he wrote the books to be sort of an anti-Narnia series, and the ideas expounded come largely from Nihilist philosophers.

Interesting, and thank you for you prompt reply! I can't, however, comment beyond that as I've only just finished Compass and I haven't read anything of Narnia (aside from The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe many, many years ago). However, I think I'll likely read both series now and compare the two. Thank you. :)

I think that's a great idea, actually. :) I think more people should compare and contrast - no matter which books you like more (or whether you love both or hate both) it makes for some really interesting food for thought.

Funny you'd say that...

the ability to tell good writing from crappy, rip-off writing before you make major life decisions.

Yeah, go read and deify a book written by a bunch of illiterate desert-dwelling guys thousands of years ago instead!

Blatant flametroll is blatant.

Funny you'd say that...

Ohnoes, another Dawkinsite. That man is responsible for more poor research...

Yeah, go read and deify a book written by a bunch of illiterate desert-dwelling guys thousands of years ago instead!

"Written" and "illiterate": you're using your words wrong, dearie.

LOLFAIL

Go back and read some Shakespeare. At least he was funny and didn't advocate the killing of children.

A lot of us feel this way and don't even read or like Dawkins.

Whether you like Dawkins or not, it's still impossible for illiterate people to write a book.

Or are you saying God wrote it?

Wait, maybe you have a point...

;)
