120. I sort of know how you feel (although I read the manga, you couldn't catch me watching the anime). It is sexist drivel, and the fandom has the IQ of an irradiated jackass. And yet I don't drop it.
I think the reason is that with the characters, and the setting, it had potential to be incredible. Kishimoto squandered that potential at every turn, but in somebody else's hands, it could have been great. I don't like Naruto so much as I like what Naruto could have and should have been.
123. I bet you walked uphill both ways, too, and them dang teenagers weren't running around having sex.
139. Uh, one of those things is not like the others.
149. It should be pointed out that, statistically speaking, they are far more likely to be right.
165. Yep, he almost stopped being a failure. Almost. But then he decided to climb into a bucket instead.
187. LOL. His Dark Materials is great shit but if you seriously think that Christianity's been the most evil influence on the world for the past two thousand years, you need to educate yourself.
Oh, wait, you're almost certainly a troll. Nevermind.

Religious history is an avid hobby of mine. I've studied every major religion in the world and their histories and I can assure you that any arguement you can scrap up to support your argument will reak of bigotry.

But what I actually wanted to say was that philosophers like Neitszche have written numerous books expousing that same view, so it's not exactly true to say that it's ignorant.

Re: 114, 120, 123, 139, 149, 165, 187
That's really only true when you're talking about Real Person Fandoms. Fictional characters only have existence within the context of their story, so if one person reads a queer dynamic into the text, and another reads it as het, both are engaged in equally valid acts of interpretation.
The fact that we're so inundated with tropes of heterosexuality can mean we're inclined to take the straight reading as a given fact of the text. (If The Hero gives The Girl googly eyes, then obviously he loves her. We've learned this from nine out of every ten shows or films we watched growing up.) However, it's not actually any more a 'truth' about the character than a queer reading is where the queer reading is also based on cues from the text (even cues unintended by the creators).
Sexuality in fiction isn't something inherent in a fictional character. It's an act of interpretation by the individual viewer of the events of the text. Het/Slash/It's a Nazi metaphor/Gen goggles are all just different ways of approaching the story to generate different readings.
