There's MinamiCon every year (it's like, onto Minami 15 now or something)
For the past three years we've had AmeCon every year, and now it looks to be going back into the pattern of alternating between AmeCon and AyaCon each summer.
There's KitaCon coming up in April, and FuyuCon later next year too, and possibly also Auchinawa....
ChibiCon is running soon in Derby and is only £10 for the weekend!
Then on top of those, you've got the London and Midlands MCM Expos which run twice a year, and while they're not anime exclusive, they're awesome for cosplaying and meeting other fans!
Also, look around for local Anime Societies - there are plenty around!
I used to think being an anime fan in the UK sucked too, but I learnt about conventions at 15 and went to my first one as soon as I was old enough (16 for AyaCon 2005 :3)
Life's not been the same since.

My friends have gone to Minami for the past few years since we all live within a stone's throw from Southampton, but I'm only JUuuuust getting into anime (I somehow avoided it for 25 years and I think now it's going to catch up to me in a BIG way) and never felt 'qualified' to go. I'm totally going next year, if they'll EVER get the danged registration details up.
I just want an excuse to geek out for a weekend and make new friends. I may have to hit way more cons in the future, so thanks for all these recomendations!

No probs about the recommendations, I've been going to cons since 2005 now and it's great to see new people having such an awesome time~!
Geeking out at cons is great, because there's always likeminded people all around :3
