i'm not going to get into an argument with you about history, because the other posters in this thread have done so eloquently and accurately. but you really think that if christianity didn't exist, similar squabbles over power wouldn't happen? that diseases wouldn't have been spread as people explored and conquered the globe? that the desperate wars over land and money and people would be solved with peace and love? no other belief system would crop up and allow humans to justify atrocities?
it's true that the western world has done a lot of bad shit over the last 2000 years as it has come to dominance in the world sphere. it's also true that christianity has been the biggest factor affecting the philosophy of the western world. but to equate the two, to ignore the economic, political, geographical, and historical factors and to blame all things supposedly done in the name of christianity, and some that weren't, on the religion is just a bit more than faintly ridiculous.
and it also totally dismisses the good that has been done in the name of christianity, in the spirit of love that jesus truly represented.
i'm an agnostic, but even i find your ignorant posturing on this topic insulting.
