Why is one set of goggles better than another? Why do we need goggles at all? Christ, when did it becaome so gauche to just like a pairing because you think the characters have chemistry together instead of 'OMG two hot guys, they must have sex!' or 'OMG, a hot guy and a hot girl, they must want to have sex!' or mix and match, or whatever. I dislike that viewpoint no matter what sexuality is being "represented". Just like the pairings you like, don't go all televangelist about it. God I'm sick of hearing about pairing wank!

Oh, and for the record (like I'm sure anyone cares), I'm really tired of hearing people trot out the "unless the creators literally say a character's straight, they could be bi or closeted" thing is reeeaaaally wearing thin. In reality, yeah, a person could be bi, or closeted, or even asexual if they don't explicitly and confidently say they're straight, but in the world of fiction, most characters that are seen having a sexual interest in a character of the opposite gender are probably supposed to be straight. I don't think that in this day and age, a writer should have to beat us over the head with a character's sexual preference for the audience to get it. To trot that out just sounds like you're rationalizing it, which is very irritating. You don't have to defend the pairings you like, like them because you like them, not because they could possibly someday be canon if you squint your eyes and tilt your head to the left, even though it's pretty obvious the creators/writers/actors are seeing them as straight.

Because without that response, you have people saying "ZOMG STUPID YAOI FANGIRLS YOU CAN'T PAIR A AND B UP BECAUSE THEY'RE OBVIOUSLY STRAIGHT!!!!!!" And bisexuality is so underrepresented in the media that if you're just going by what the creators think, you're gonna have an overrepresentation of straight people. For some characters, yeah, it's less likely that they're bisexual/closeted/questioning, but for characters with few to no canon love interests, it's pretty annoying to be told seeing them as anything other than straight is a result of "slash goggles".

But, yeah, I agree with you that people should just ship what they want to ship and stop bashing other people's pairings. It's so pointless.

This. Shipping is a stupid hobby anyways. And pretty much, it's all out of character. It's like getting serious over Mad Libs.
