He probably thinks he can make it good.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe he can. I hope that he does!

Maybe he can actually turn the DCU around? I'd probably watch a Suicide Squad movie he did.

Same, I'm curious to see where this goes.

Lmao yeah, I like DC (the comics) much more than Marvel, but their cinematic universe is a hot mess and I try to forget it exists most of the time. With some luck it'll be more of a Wonder Woman scenario than a BvS scenario, but still.

It definitely sucks that Disney took the side of an actual rapist (Cernovich) on this but the impression I get is the rest of the industry wants to work with him now that he's open. He's apparently been given free reign to reboot the franchise as well.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
But can it be redeemed? Isn't the concept just flawed from the start?

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
the concept of Suicide Squad?

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
What are you talking about?

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
My question is, what concept do you think is flawed from the start? And if the concept that you think is flawed from the start is the concept of Suicide Squad, why?

No. Assault on Arkham is one of the best DC animated films in a long line of really good animated films.

Same. At the same time, it kind of puts the nail in the coffin of future Guardians of the Galaxy movies as a result.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Does it? I'm genuinely asking, like if there's some sort of contract clause that'll prevent future films? Because if not, it's hard for me to imagine that they won't just take time to regroup and find a new director. Giving up those box office takings isn't something people will do without a fight, surely.

Because all the cast members of GotG are fiercely loyal to him and they might not agree to be in a GotG that he's not involved in. The cast has a lot of solidarity with him. They all signed a letter asking for him not to be fired and seem to agree that Gunn is the heart of why everything worked out for them. You can't just assume magic will happen for them again.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
They have no choice although I imagine Bautista will phone it in.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
How the cast personally feels is one thing, but it's very likely they're bound by contracts with penalties if they try to get out of them and doing so would burn a lot of bridges with one of the biggest, most successful movie franchises. If push comes to shove, they might not like Gunn's firing, but I think it'll be tough for most of them (basically everyone who's not Chris Pratt) to risk the damage to their careers.

Yes, it sure is a shame that he got handed a big budget franchise that they think his personal style would work well on. Truly the greatest punishment possible

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
MTE. Won't anyone think of the white dudes who make disgusting "jokes"?! How long are they supposed to suffer?!

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yes someone should be fired for decade-old jokes. Get real.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 11:22 am (UTC)(link)
Jokes like that? For a job like that? At a company like that? Yes, I think he should. Why is he so special that consequences shouldn't affect him? Why shouldn't the company have to put their money where their mouth is for once when they were dumb enough to hire him hoping none of his past grossness would come back to haunt them? Don't tell me that he's so vital to the success of marvel movies that the studio will collapse without him. And certainly don't try to convince me that getting another gig directing a franchise weeks later is somehow a punishment from which he'll never recover. That's absolutely ludicrous.
