Chicken-choking and Free Peach Cobbler

I generally have a lot of bitterness about high school but I do have a few things that make me chuckle

One was an incident that showed just how sheltered I was. It was in Creative Writing class and the teacher (who was kind of a hippy type tbh)had us write about an inappropriate skit some students did that got her some kind of rebuke or something from higher ups. Interesting reaction there. Dunno if she was trying to make a point. but anyway, I didn't pay attention as I was often in my own little haze of creativity and story planning. Creative writing was often where I planned my fics. All I knew about the inappropriate skit was something about choking a chicken.

Well I had never heard the term or at least didn't know it meant anything else and being as autistic as I was I took it literally and for my journal thing I guess I wrote about how I didn't think animal cruelty was a joke or something. And then we were put in groups and I had to share my writeup with my groupmates. Well once I said animal cruelty they all had this look and were like "oh honey... no.. that's not what it means". They explained and I was MORTIFIED and quite a few people were probably amused.

The other one was in my junior or senior year at a second high school (we were redistricted and I had to repeat 11th grade because the first time around I was an under-medicated mess.

I was still spending most of my time thinking about fandom stuff and when I could get to the library computers (another reason I probably did poorly in 11th grade). Usually I did that during lunch and so I spent as little time as possible in the lunchroom.

Well one day for whatever reason I was in the food line and there was some delicious looking peach cobbler. I noticed some posted ad around the food line when I got in there, about how you can get a free lunch if you only get fruits or vegetables.

Well when I saw that peach cobbler my mind got to thinking. "Well.....peach IS a fruit." So I loaded up my plate with JUST peach cobbler and got to the cash register and pointed out "there's an ad saying you can get a free lunch if you only get fruit and vegetables."

And shockingly? they LET me. I wandered to a table in shock that I got away with that and then ate as much of it as I could.

I never told my parents until years later thinking they might disapprove, but a couple years back when my Dad visited for my birthday , before he made it out to CO , I told him, Matt and Kaiti about it.

He thought it was hilarious.

Honestly, I'd never heard the term "choke the chicken" until some point in adulthood and I think it was on tv. I don't think I've ever actually heard someone use that euphemism IRL.

Yeah I dunno if its a thing people say very often.
