I don't know that I need an entirely positive space. I'm on a Star Wars discord channel that's pretty positive overall, and it's nice to see people talking about what they like so I guess that's covered for me.

I wish I had a place to truly vent about TLJ. I really haven't because my issues aren't the misogynistic/racist types or the Luke-fanboy type. I just want to analyze the flaws because I found a space to do that with The Hobbit movies, and I really enjoyed that. But as far as my corner, we kept it away from the people who were really enjoying The Hobbit movies so they could avoid the negative if they wanted to.

You really can't with the sequel trilogy stuff. You can't make criticisms without having to argue about all the other criticisms that have been leveled at the film, even if they're not ones you agree with, so the discussion's already derailed out the gate.

I do wish there was more of a space to talk about the EU and cartoons and comics. If you're not into the ST or OT, it's really hard to get a conversation going.

There are so many plays to talk negatively about TLJ, though. Like, I follow ten Star Wars communities on Facebook, and all but one are chock full of negative stuff.

Good for you, I guess. I have yet to find anywhere that I can discuss my issues with TLJ without it ending up in a ship war.

Mine has been the exact opposite. I have a hard time finding places where I can be positive about TLJ without being attacked.

Yeah, although some of my issues with TLJ boil down to hating Reylo, not all of them do, but I also really really hate all the “forced diversity is ruining SW” bullshit that people assume is what I mean when I say I disliked TLJ.

I like pretty much every character in the new trilogy but Kylo Ren and Hux, and I don’t ship anybody. According to many people who loved TLJ but also people who hated it because “libruls ruin everything,” the only problems people have with TLJ are “women and POC suck all the fun out of everything,” “my ship’s not canon wahh,” “virtue signalling,” and “Luke is perfect and would never do that.” Which are precisely zero of my reasons for disliking TLJ.

THIS this this - except I like Hux and that was just another reason to dislike TLJ. But I wouldn't care if they added 20 more diverse characters, it's what they did with those characters that I found lacking, along with plotholes and pacing issues.

Hi a star war!

I follow a handful of Prequel blogs on tumblr, and I've seen no negativity. But yeah, this fandom has been a shitshow since 1983 /sits here quietly enjoying Episode III

*cough* 1980 *cough* The prequel fans are one of the few groups in SW fandom that is almost completely wank free and upliftingly positive. I love being around them.

I'm a SW fan myself and while I certainly understand the sentiment, has there ever been an entirely positive fandom space, in the history of fandom? I mean it sounds as mythical as Shangri-La, honestly.

Yeah, Star Wars fandom really has no chill.

[community profile] starwarsfruitbowl is sadly quiet these days, but used to be a very good place for that. (Maybe we can be the change we want to see in our fandom over there?)

Honestly ME.

I have my criticisms with some of the movies, but for the most part, I love them all. When I tell people I love Star Wars, I get the comments and questions like: "Ew, even the prequels?" or "Yeah, but TLJ was hot garbage." And it's like, no dude, I don't think you get it -- I love all Star Wars. Period. I'll talk about my perceived flaws with these movies, but I would MUCH rather talk about all the shit that makes me happy.
