And she stopped Finn's "heroic sacrifice" even though the movie made it clear that his death wouldn't have done anything to the weapon. And honestly, that hate seems to come from actual Finn haters who seem at least a bit racist and who outright say that the "heroic sacrifice" thing was the first time they liked Finn.

Anyway, yes, I think there are reasonable fans who just dislike her for some reason I can't fathom. But a lot of it is rooted in sexism and racism and just determination to dislike the new movies.

Pretty much. I looked her up and read an article about her being harassed online to the point of deleting her social media, and *in the comments* was so much hate and 'oh, this isn't real, this is made up' crap....
JAYZUS.

I kind of hate most of humankind right now. We are just so fucking ugly anymore.

And the Star Wars fandom has always been a particularly bad fandom. Look at all the hate the prequels got. Amed Best got a lot of what Rose's actress is getting now. He almost killed himself because of the nastiness. Heck, Return of the Jedi used to get some hate. There are some Star Wars fans who refuse to accept anything except ANH and ESB and think their opinion is somehow objective and better than everyone else's and that the SW creators and everyone who disagrees with them deserves to be bullied and harassed. I've seen very few fandoms quite as nasty as this one in terms of sending hate to real life people.

Oh, Star Wars fandom is toxic, yeah.

I did not know that about the actor - that sucks balls. I mean - Jar Jar was shite, but it certainly wasn't *his* fault.

I loved the first Star Wars. Saw it in the theater when i was 10, fell in love. Enjoyed the second one, liked the third one, and then....eh.

The rest have moments, but they're just not as good. They've lost what made the first one, in particular, magical and amazing, and I only watch when i have nothing else of interest and I'm curious about what's going on.

They're kind of beating a dead horse, in my mind, anymore, which is too bad.

It is just so hard to find places that are positive. I love it all. I love all the movies, the EU, and the animated shows. But any place that is positive towards one part is negative towards another. SW is my second favorite piece of media (after Tolkien), but the fandom is just exhausting.

Yeah. I am super-picky about the places i go and read and interact, because i do not want all that ugly, negative crap in my life.

To play devil's advocate, I don't think it was all that clear attacking the weapon wouldn't have done something. The first time I saw it, I expected that he would attack it and stop that particular threat.

I think part of it is that his arc did seem to be moving to embracing the Rebellion and here he is ready to sacrifice for it, which often leads to actual sacrifice. Him not sacrificing himself is another of Rian's subversions, but it only works because it is subverting a common trope.

I'm glad he didn't die but I do think the execution of what Rian was trying to do there wasn't well done or obvious.

That said, I do agree that some of the people making the argument aren't doing so in good faith and do hate Finn.

I very much agree with you.

I like Finn, and I was already starting to cry, because I thought he was going to sacrifice himself. It's not that I wanted him to die. I didn't. But so much of his life was him being under the control of others and he's now making a decision for himself and yet again someone takes away his agency.

I don't hate Rose, but for being yet another person to take away Finn's agency, I don't really like her and definitely don't like Finn/Rose.
