Stray cat advice

(Anonymous) 2018-10-27 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Last night I was walking home from the store and met a friendly, enormously fluffy, mostly black with some white cat with no collar in the parking lot of a school athletic field. I walked him across the street to where there’s some apartments, assuming he belonged to someone there.

Tonight I saw him again hiding under a car way closer to my house. He came out to say hi, but I’m sure he doesn’t live with any of my immediate neighbors. I haven’t seen any lost cat signs or anything. I’d take him in for the night since it’s Halloween weekend and I live in an area that gets pretty rowdy, but I have a kind of tetchy cat. What should I do?

Tough call. Historically, Halloween is a tough time for black cats and your instinct is admirable. But it doesn't sound like you've been able to rule out the possibility that he's someone's outside cat?

Maybe consider googling tutorials for how to build a feral cat shelter, which would give him a place to hide?

AYRT—argh I think I found the owner’s lost cat post but now I can’t find the cat! I hope he’s still around and safe or someone made the same connection I did and called the owners to come get him. His name’s Gus, he lives 2 miles from here, and he’s been gone a week. It’s too late to call them but I will tomorrow just to let them know where he’s been hanging out. If he’s still at large I’ll just keep an eye out I guess.

That's great! At least with a sighting his owners have some shot of getting him back. You did good, anon!
