This secret confuses me. So are you saying they aren't allowed to have a favorite character? If you don't like that particular character, unfollow. It is their blog, and they can put on it what they want.

I think that they're not sure whether it's actually a devoted character blog now, or whether they're going to return to normal programming

And I don't think that's unreasonable to be confused about

Well most people are going to have their favourites even if they are a more general-blog for the fandom.

Frankly if it's enough to bother you then just unfollow, it's not like you have to stick with a blog if the content changes to something you're not interested in. And similarly the blogger is allowed to have their favourite and post about them if they want to.

It might just be a coincidence, but if you don't like seeing it just un-follow them... Or like another person said, just block the tag.
If they don't even tag correctly maybe just leave them a casual message about it? Maybe even let them know you like their gifs, and ask about the sudden influx of this certain character?
